The Tobin Eye Wash bottle is made from blow-moulded plastic, filled with 1 litre of 0.9% saline, heat sealed, and then sterilised. The Tobin Eye Wash has a 3 year shelf life and remains sealed and sterile until use.
The Tobin Eye Wash bottle hangs from a wall mounted rack by its cap. To open, simply break off the cap. An unopened Tobin Eye Wash bottle can be removed or replaced in the stand at will. An opened Tobin Eye Wash bottle cannot be replaced in the stand. Racks hold either 2 or 5 bottles. There are no moving or mechanical parts to malfunction.
One Tobin Eye Wash bottle gives approximately 3 minutes of washing time.
Safety Features
Eye support ring
Allows the Tobin Eye Wash bottle to be positioned and supported for optimum washing of the eye. This facilitates prolonged washing and also washing during transportation to a doctor.
The flow
The eye is washed by a soft flow consisting of six tiny streams. The gentle flow prevents chemicals or foreign bodies being driven further into damaged soft tissue
Single Use
The fact that the Tobin Eye Wash bottle is single use is a very important safety feature. Once the Tobin Eye Wash bottle has been opened, the liquid is no longer sterile. The round ended Tobin Eye Wash bottle is designed to prevent people saving unused liquid or refilling the bottle with other liquid. When empty the bottle has a hole at both ends, making it unsuitable for further use.
No mechanical parts
The blow-moulded bottle has no moving or mechanical parts to malfunction. The bottle is simple to open and easy to use.
Directional arrow
An arrow is engraved on the bottle. A blinded person can easily follow the arrow with his thumb and open the bottom air vent.
Instructions
Clear, simple instructions for use are on each bottle and stand.
Air vent
When the air vent at the base of the bottle is opened, it lets air into the bottle and ensures the eye is washed by a soft continuous flow. The flow can be stopped, to allow blinking and eye movements, by placing the thumb over the vent.
Round Base
Tobin Eye Wash bottle has a round base and cannot stand alone. This is a particularly important safety feature that removes the temptation to take bottles from the stand and place them close to bottles with other contents. Mix-ups should never occur. It’s important that everyone knows where the bottles are when an accident occurs.
